God Is the Owner, Not the Assistant

Sermon Series: Stewardship

Ownership Begins with God

The Big Idea

Ownership begins with God, not us.

I. God Owns Everything: We Own Nothing

  • The Scope of Divine Ownership: Creation establishes God as the primary owner. (Ps 24:1)
  • Occupants, Not Owners: We live in a world that belongs to another.
  • The Illusion of Ownership: Letting go of the idea that we own things brings freedom.

II. What We Call ‘Mine,’ God Calls ‘His’

  • God’s Claim Over Wealth: God clearly states that the silver and gold are His. (Hag 2:8)
  • The Myth of Self-Made Success: Every resource is a gift from the Source.
  • Accountability: We are responsible for how we use His resources.

III. Ownership Reveals Itself in How We Hold Things

“Living as stewards means having open hands with everything God has placed in our care.”

  • Possessions: Using them for God’s purposes rather than our own.
  • Time and Life: Even our breath is on loan from the Creator.

The Bottom Line

Ownership begins with God, not us. When we restore the proper order: God as Owner, we as stewards, life aligns.
